It all seems to be crumbling around Lance Armstrong. The one time real life Captain America will no longer be outfitted by the largest shoe company in the world. Nike released this brief but poignant statement a short time ago:
“Due to the seemingly insurmountable evidence that Lance Armstrong participated in doping and misled Nike for more than a decade, it is with great sadness that we have terminated our contract with him. Nike does not condone the use of illegal performance enhancing drugs in any manner.
Nike plans to continue support of the Livestrong initiatives created to unite, inspire and empower people affected by cancer.”
Not that Lance would ever listen to me for advice, but America is a sucker for comeback stories. He needs to call Oprah and set up a one on one interview, and just come all the way clean. I mean full tearful admission of all the PEDS he used and defeating cancer, and how he did it all for defending the honor of America.
While he will never regain the trust of cynical people like myself, he can win over the hearts of millions of people that want to believe that they weren’t lied to all these years. That the Lance they bought in to, may not be as perfect as they once hoped, but is still a really good guy who overcame a disease we all equally hate. Otherwise I think Lance is headed for a spiral downward that will have him on a VH-1 reality TV show sharing a bunk bed with Joey Lawrence. Call Oprah Lance, asap.
