Like with our judicial system, kids are judged on a different curve than adults. Their youth shields them from the same level of scrutiny of their actions would warrant for an adult. But extreme cases truly do call for extreme measures. And in this case, 11 years old or not, if you butcher our nations most charished song, well you will be thrown to the blogger wolves.
The issue isn’t so much that she can’t sing, or isn’t far more courageous than most to attempt to perform a difficult song in front of thousands, ok hundreds of adoring American soccer fans. Its that she tries to sex up the song and make it her own at 11. I blame that on her parents and vocal coach. Know your limitations. When a point guard passes the ball on the break to a big guy and he has to make a couple of dribbles before dunking the ball, and in turn dribbles off of his foot, that is the point guards fault for giving him the ball too early. They obviously rehearsed this song hundreds of times right? Did her father really not notice that she was trying to sound like Christina Aguilera. I blame the adults for putting this poor little girl in this situation. And I blame you for laughing at her.
Unlike Carl Lewis though at least she wasn’t wearing a read blazer with a yellow and red button up shirt, looking like a back up dancer from the Janet jackson “Control” video. Theres always that.
